Jelly should be as natural as possible. Bird-friendly jelly is best with its fruit and sugar such as our WBU Jelly Jubilee.
- Avoid preservatives and other additives, especially sugar alternatives. All Natural or Organic.
- Too often, jelly is offered in wide bowls or the whole jelly jar is hung to allow birds to reach in to feed. These can create dangerous situations for birds, especially inquisitive hummingbirds.
- We recommend small-cup jelly feeders to prevent bird’s bodies from contacting the jelly.
- Only provide a small amount of jelly each day so that the birds will consume it while it’s still fresh.
- And, mid-June through July, offer mealworms for the babies.
